My First Poker Tournament!
This past Saturday my friend Jason and I signed up for my city's American Red Cross Casino Charity event. It was so much fun! There were about 80 people playing Black Jack and/or Poker. There were door prizes and silent auctions going on as well. Drinks and plenty of yummy hors d'oeuvres! Our poker table had myself, Jason and four other men. We played from 7pm to 10:30pm. I won the first two hands and started to lose, but one of my biggest wins started with a straight, river-assisted flushes and 3-of a kind. My biggest hand and win of the night was a full house of aces and nines. Most of our table had 1-2 rebuys - I had none!!
At about 10:15pm, I had wom most of the chips at my table. One of the more outspoken opponents, John, gathered all the chips from everyone's pile and pushed them towards me and said, "Here! You might as well have them!" At the end of the night, I had $11,850 in chips and came in second to the night's big winner who had $12,000. Dang!! Oh well, there's always next year!
Nice thing is, I won the silent auction for the helicopter ride with my city's Police Department. When the event organizer collected my check, she smiled and added: "Oh, they're gonna love YOU." I'm sure I will blog that day when it comes!
